Sport Taekwondo Referee Primer

Gregory S. Kailian currently serves as a senior referee with USA Taekwondo (USAT), the National Governing Board established by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to administer the sport of taekwondo in the United States. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Kailian earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University, and a doctorate from the University of Southern California. A graduate of the 1983 World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) International Referee Course (IR# 013-0625), Greg lived and worked in Korea for ten years, practicing taekwondo on a daily basis. He has officiated at numerous international taekwondo events, as well as Olympic qualifiers, world championships and world cup competitions, including the 2010 World Cup Team Championships held in Urumqi, Xianjiang province, China. He currently holds Kukkiwon 8th degree black belt and “S” (Special) class, international referee rank, the highest level recognized by the World Taekwondo Federation.
